Balearic Tax

From the 1st July this year the Balearic Government is introducing a new tax on all tourists over the age of 16. From May to October visitors will be charged between 50 cents and 2€ per day, payable on arrival at their accommodation. The upper rate of two euros will apply to five-star and four-star superior hotels and tourist apartments of four keys or four keys superior.

Guests in three-star superior and four-star hotels will pay 1.5 euros, whilst those in one, two and three-star hotels will be charged one euro. Tourist apartments with three keys will charge, 1.5 euros, and with one or two keys, one euro. The daily rate will be reduced by 50% on the 10th night of their stay and visits between November and April are also discounted by 50%. Children under 16 will not be required to pay.

The revenue, which will be divided between the islands, with over 40% going to Mallorca (Majorca), will be used for regeneration of tourism infrastructure, protection of heritage sites, promotion of low season tourism and staff training, as well as investment in health and social facilities.

Santa Ponsa

13th June sees the Country Club Tennis Academy in Santa Ponsa. hosting the WTA Mallorca Open.
Famous Serbian Tennis ace, Ana Ivanovic, officially opened the specially created, grass court by hitting the first ball during an opening ceremony attended by hundreds, whilst Toni Nadal, trainer and uncle of local champion, Rafa Nadal, attended, along with tennis star Carlos Moya.

Port Adriano

June 10th-12th – Best of Yachting & Marina Day

A three day event displaying the latest vessels created by the finest local craftsmen, with an open day on 11th June, allowing the public to enjoy leisure facilities usually only available to the yachting community. Everyone is welcome and entertainment is offered for the duration of this 12 year-old, maritime celebration.

Palma

The BH Mallorca Hotel concerts open the season of performances by rock legends, with weekly Tuesday night sessions until September.

23rd June – Nit de Foc (Night of Fire)

An annual event held to mark the eve of midsummer. The streets of Palma are brought to life with bonfires and huge firework displays coming from the Parc de la Mer signifying the real beginning of summer. This date is also significant in Muro where the Fiesta del Solque Bailla takes place.

24th June – Sant Joan Fiesta

Summer solstice is cause for a double celebration, as locals also pay homage to Sant Joan (John the Baptiste) with fiestas and events taking place throughout Majorca.

28th & 29th June – Sant Pere Fiesta

The month closes with yet another festival as fishing boats join processions in Palma, Port d’Andratx and Port d’Alcudia to honour the patron saint of fishermen.

 

Ibiza

Opening Again Party

Thursday’s Cream at Amnesia has been a constant for, longer than any other event on the island of Ibiza. Voted ‘Best Club of the Last 25 Years’ by Mixmag, the veteran Thursday night event kicks off 2016 with an opening night on 9th June. Cream will run for 15 weeks, with Fatboy Slim in residence. He will be hosting the first and last nights, with five dates inbetween, whilst other favourites such as Above & Beyond and Paul van Dyk will feature on several occasions during what promises to be another popular season.

 

Sunset Vibes

With the longest day approaching and sunsets getting later, June is all about enjoying the sunny days and vibrant nights on Ibiza. Benniras beach is a sheltered, sandy bay on the north western coast, and a renowned anchoring spot for exclusive, private yachts. Every Sunday the bohemian community descend to ‘drum down the sunset’ in a hippie ritual established over many years. Feel the beat, mingle with the crowds, and revel in the astonishing views from this amazing, natural party scene.

 

Longest Day Celebrations

Summer solstice on the island of Ibiza is a lavish affair with attention largely focused on the village of San Juan. During the day of 23rd June market stalls selling arts and crafts are set up to celebrate the special day. At midnight on the eve of their saint’s day, crowds of locals take turns to leap over a mystical number of nine bonfires. A unique spectacle and truly magical.
